Whiten Your Teeth

Problem

You do not like the color of your teeth.  They are too yellow, not white enough or they are all different colors.

Solution

Three basic options: Whitening / Bleaching, Porcelain Laminates / Veneers and Porcelain Crowns.

Whitening / Bleaching

Ideal Candidates.  People with natural teeth that are discolored. You cannot whiten crowns, fillings, bonding or laminates.

Procedure.  The whitening process is very easy and is typically accomplished by placing a whitening chemical on your teeth.  You can apply it at home or by the doctor in the dental office for quicker results.

The "at-home" or "tray" method is widely used. With this method you use a plastic tray that is custom made by your doctor to fit your teeth.  Once you place the chemical inside the tray, you wear it in your mouth as your doctor recommends.

The "in-office" or "laser" method is done in the dental office.  Your doctor will place a chemical on your teeth and use a light to accelerate the whitening process.

Time Commitment.  This usually takes 1-2 appointments.

Fees.  Range from $500-$900 depending on the method.

Veneers

Ideal Candidates.  If you have small fillings, or bonding that are discolored then you are a better candidate for replacement of the fillings / bonding or Porcelain Veneers (a.k.a. Porcelain Laminates).

Procedure.  Porcelain Veneers are thin pieces of custom made porcelain that are placed over the front surfaces of your teeth.  They are typically used on the front teeth when replacing bonding will not give you the cosmetic result you want.  The procedure involves removing a thin layer off of the front of the tooth and replacing it with a custom-made porcelain veneer. The veneer is bonded on to the front surface of the tooth. Porcelain Veneers can be done on individual teeth to change just one tooth.  If you want to change the color or shape of your entire smile then multiple veneers are usually necessary.

Time Commitment.  This usually takes 2 appointments.

Fees.  Fees range from $900-$1600 per tooth.

Porcelain Crowns

Ideal Candidate.  If you have existing crowns, bridges, and large fillings / bonding that are discolored, stained or yellow, then you are a better candidate for Porcelain Crowns.

Procedure.  Most crowns used today on front teeth are made with just porcelain and are "metal free".  This makes them very cosmetic eliminating the "black line" that many people associate with crowns. The procedure is simple.  Your cosmetic dentist will take out the old fillings or remove the old crowns.  The remaining tooth is then reduced in size to accommodate a porcelain crown that is the correct size, shape and color to fit your smile.

Time Commitment.  This typically takes 2 visits.

Fees.  Fees range from $900 - $1600 a tooth.
